ETSU fans add another letter or two that includes "F". Yep, that's what rivalries provide. You always remember the big plays…the moments that turn or win that game. That's not all there was to Caldwell's season.
Whether he started or came off the bench, he was the same player. That consistency came in a variety of roles considering the numbers issues the squad faced. At some point, he played four different positions and was impactful.
His usual perch on the wing had him slide effortlessly between the 2 and 3. Need a breather for point guard Malachi Smith? Enter Caldwell. In the win at Middle Tennessee and their physically impressive frontcourt, need someone to play the 4 for a bit? Caldwell again. He did that throughout the season fitting in where needed.
How many areas of the game did he truly affect though? A look at the stats sheet paints an interesting picture.
He led the team in 3pt percentage (41.2%) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.3). A.J. was second in assists (65) and blocks (9) as well as third in steals (30). Blocks?

His ability to impact games by any and all means necessary was noticed early and often by pundits around the team. This was a good read after the Middle Tennessee heroics by Times Free Press beat writer Gene Henley sharing his viewpoint and Coach Lamont Paris' take.

That came after his career-high five steals at MTSU where he was literally halfway to a quadruple-double with five points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals. That came two nights before a career-best five threes in the win at Bellarmine.

His first career double-double was almost just the fourth triple-double in school history with 11 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists in the opening win of the season sweep over Samford. Seven games in double figures, 13 with five or more rebounds, 10 with three or more assists, two with multiple blocks and seven more with multiple steals.
