The Homer Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center is hosting a “Do-It-Yourself Clean-Up Month” initiative May 3-22 to encourage a new approach to cleaning the community.
Citizens interested in participating in the community clean-up project can pick up yellow trash bags, provided by the Kenai Peninsula Borough, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday at the Chamber Visitor Center located at 201 Sterling Highway. Participants should take only the amount of trash bags needed and will be responsible for signing out the designated area that will be cleaned on the project clipboard.
The filled trash bags can be taken to the Homer Transfer Facility Monday-Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. The facility is located at Mile 169.3 Sterling Highway.
This initiative is sponsored by the Homer Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center, Homer Kachemak Bay Rotary Club, KBBI Public Radio, Kenai Peninsula Borough Solid Waste Department, KARe-Kachemak Advocates for Recycling, Dr. William Marley Sr. and State Farm Insurance.
