Greg Olsen Unveils Charlotte Pediatric Heart Center
Seahawks tight end Greg Olsen is currently on injured reserve due to a foot injury, but he continues to do amazing things off the field. On Monday, Olsen and his wife Kara unveiled the HEARTest Yard Congenital Heart Center at Levine Children's Hospital in Charlotte, N.C. in conjunction with Atrium Health, a facility the Olsens helped fund and build.
The inspiration for opening the facility was his son T.J., who was born with a congenital heart disease. The Olsens started The HEARTest Yard program in 2013 to raise money and provide in-home services for families returning home with newborn children after heart surgery.
"As parents, we quickly realized how complex it would be to help our son as he went through his multiple heart surgeries, but the real challenge came after we left the hospital," Olsen told Atrium Health. "We noticed that T.J., and others who have gone through what he had, needed additional support and care from a team of experts who were closely connected to one another and could seamlessly share feedback at one time with the family."
The Olsens have donated frequently over the years, but their $2.5 million contribution last year allowed the hospital to begin work on the facility that opened on Monday.
Monday's event was a virtual ribbon-cutting, which you can rewatch on Levine Children's Hospital's Facebook page.
