The Powell Research and Extension Center (PREC) will host Field Days once again this year.
Due to COVID guidelines set forth by the University of Wyoming, the annual event couldn’t go forward last year, but the free agriculture event returns on Thursday, July 22, at 3 p.m.
The event gives the center a chance to showcase its work to the community.
“We have two missions,” explained Jim Heitholt, crop physiologist and PREC director. “The first is to help growers remain profitable, and the second is helping ensure our agricultural practices are environmentally sustainable.”
The field day will have two trailer tours this year, at 3:30 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. One tour will focus on weed management and the other will focus on variety trials with alfalfa, barley, chickpea, corn, dry bean and novelty beans.
There will also be displays and presentations on seed analysis, insect identification, agricultural products and some of the center’s other trials. These include research on ancient grains, weed control and planting dates.
As always, there will also be a number of activities and games for kids at this family-friendly event, and all ages are welcome.
The event is free to the public, with a free community meal at 5:30 p.m for attendees. Registration starts at 2:30 p.m. at the center, which is located at 747 Road 9, just north of Powell.
For more information, contact PREC at 307-754-2223 or email UWPREC@uwyo.edu. An RSVP is encouraged.
