The indoor Santa Clarita Soccer Center is set to close its doors permanently after nearly 26 years of operation as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, officials said Wednesday.
Home of the Santa Clarita Lil’ Kickers, Santa Clarita Soccer Center is closing for good after being closed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“After almost 26 years in business, it brings me great sadness to announce the permanent closure of Santa Clarita Soccer Center,” wrote Scott Schauer, owner of the center, in an email shared with KHTS. “I can no longer continue to go further and further in debt for a 26,000 square foot building that I am not allowed to use.”
The Santa Clarita Soccer Center, an indoor field, was closed in March due to restrictions placed on indoor gymnasiums as the result of the COVID-19 coronavirus.
“I would like to thank every person who participated with us over the last quarter of a century. Thank you to a great team of employees that gave so much while employed here, I appreciate each one of you,” added Schauer.
During its tenure on Rye Canyon road, the Santa Clarita Soccer Center helped support non-profits such as the Michael Hoefflin Foundation for Children’s Cancer, SCV Youth Project, The Child and Family Center, Triumph Foundation, The COC Foundation, The YMCA, AYSO as well as other local community sports organizations.
“All these organizations are such a great asset to our community, and I hope one day to be able to continue to support these great charities that have made a huge difference for so many,” he wrote.
Carl Goldman and Jeri Seratti-Goldman, owners and operators of KHTS Radio, remarked that the Soccer Center’s local contributions will be missed.
“We’ve known Scott for thirty years, and he’s been giving back to so many non-profts through the Soccer Center,” Seratti-Goldman added. “We worked together on the Michael Hoefflin Foundation for many years… the contributions he made to the community will be missed.”
