Montreal Impact's Romell Quioto enjoyed an eventful 15 minutes to open Sunday night's match against the Philadelphia Union, scoring the game's opening goal and then getting sent off ten minutes later.
Quioto's night started off on a high when his team was able to capitalize on a solid start with a goal from a free kick. Just outside the penalty area, the forward found an open spot amongst the walls of players and easily sent it past goalkeeper Andre Blake to give his side a 1-0 lead.
The Impact rode that momentum for most of the next ten minutes, though Quioto disrupted that with his red card. Quioto elbowed the Union's Mark McKenzie in the face, which referee Marcos de Oliveira first gave a yellow card. He quickly went to review the incident on the side monitor by VAR Alan Kelly, and after watching reversed the decision to a red, sending Montreal's goalscorer to the locker room early. The Union scored an equalizer six minutes through captain Alejandro Bedoya.
The red card is the Impact's second in two matches. Defender Rudy Camacho was sent off in the 37th minute against the Vancouver Whitecaps on Wednesday when the scoreline was 0-0. The Whitecaps went on to win the match 3-1, fully taking advantage of having an extra player on the field and opening the scoring just three minutes after the red card.
