KALAMAZOO, MI -- The Ascension Medical Group Borgess Cancer Center is on track to open September 2021, the healthcare system announced.
The 38,000-square-foot facility is located near the intersection of Stadium Drive and Drake Road in Oshtemo Township.
Construction crews broke ground in August 2020. The facility is being built in the newly completed second phase of Western Michigan University’s Business, Technology and Research Park.
The multi-level building will offer medical oncology, hematology and infusion services, according to a news release from Ascension Borgess.
Hiring has begun for 46 full-time positions, ranging from pharmacists to oncology specialty nurses. The center will also employ 12 oncology physicians and specialists.
The center features 33 infusion bays, five private infusion rooms, 35 exam rooms, an on-site pharmacy and an on-site laboratory, according to the release.
Additionally it will offer services such as a nurse navigation program, survivorship program, medical social work, cancer education and health and wellness programs.
Bronson’s Cancer Pavilion began chemotherapy and infusion services for adults in January. The pavilion is on the Bronson Methodist Hospital campus in Kalamazoo on the southeast corner of Vine Street and John Street, directly across from the Medical Office Pavilion and Vine Street Parking Ramp.
The new cancer pavilion was named in honor of former Bronson president and CEO Frank Sardone.
Both projects came after a 2018 announcement from the West Michigan Cancer Center that the center would move some services out of its downtown Kalamazoo location and into separate Bronson and Borgess facilities to effectively meet the area’s growing needs for outpatient cancer treatment.
