On March 16th, the CSS Neuse Civil War Interpretive Center announced on Facebook that in accordance with Governor Roy Cooper’s Executive Order 117, and to help limit the spread of COVID-19, the center suspended public operations.
“Governor Cooper has announced that under Phase 2.5 of his plan to ease COVID-19 restrictions, museums, aquariums, and historic sites can partially open to the public. We’re looking forward to seeing you again soon,” said Matthew Young, director of the Center.
The museum opened on Saturday while limiting visitors to 50% of occupancy as stipulated by Governor Cooper’s latest executive order. The Center also requires cloth masks to enter as outlined in Executive Order 163.
“We are taking precautions when we reopen,” said Young.
Some additional precautions the Center is taking includes installing hand sanitizer stations and increasing the frequency of cleaning high touch public areas and restrooms. Protective barriers will be at the information desk and in the gift shop sales area. Staff members will be required to wear face coverings.
Per their Facebook announcement, “Visitors are expected to follow the Three W’s as outlined by the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services – WEAR a cloth mask over your nose and mouth, WAIT in line at least six feet away from others, and WASH your hands frequently or use hand sanitizer. If you are experiencing symptoms of illness, we ask that you postpone your visit.”
The hours of operation for the Center will be Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It is an interactive museum dedicated to the Civil War with one of the war's few remaining ironclad ships.
